Transportation

Thailand has a well-developed transportation system that includes various modes of transport, both public and private, catering to both locals and tourists. Here's an overview :

Airplane https://www.airportthai.co.th
Thailand has 6 major international airports :

Bus There are three main types of buses running to provinces around Thailand.
        1. Non-air-conditioned buses operated by the government which are the cheapest and slowest.
        2. Air-conditioned buses painted in blue. This type, run by both the government and private companies, is faster and more comfortable. Normally, there are two classes of air-con buses - regular and 1st class; the latter have toilets.
For long routes like those going to Chiang Mai, Surat Thani and Phuket, there is another type called "VIP" or "sleeper" buses which have only 30 to 34 seats providing more leg room for each passenger and their fares are somewhat higher.
For provincial bus terminals, call 1490 or visit www.transport.co.th.

        3. Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a high-speed bus system with an improved management system and optimized routes. It has dedicated lanes separate from regular traffic, allowing it to avoid traffic congestion. The BRT system in major cities, such as Bangkok, helps make travel more convenient and faster.
For details on BRT, contact the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) at 0 2617 7323, or visit www.thanakom.co.th / www.thailandee.com

Train
The State Railway of Thailand offers train services throughout the country at very reasonable fares. Most long-distance trains start off from Bangkok's Hua lamphong Station on Rama IV Road. The four main rail lines, covering over 4,000 km., are the northern, northeastern, eastern and southern routes.

Note that the trains to the northern and northeastern routes pass Don Muang airport station, so you can catch a train here if you go to any province along either route to avoid heavy traffic in town in rush hours.

There are four types of trains - ordinary, rapid, express and special express, and three classes of cars - 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Passengers can buy tickets and make advance bookings at Hua lamphong Station or any of the 11 other stations in Bangkok including Don Muang Station as well as stations in large cities throughout Thailand. Besides, train tickets can also be purchased at travel agencies, with a surcharge of 50-100 baht to the ticket price.

For details, call the State Railway of Thailand, 1690, 0 2223 7010, 0 2220 4444 (RSVN), 0 2220 4334, 0 2621 8701. or visit www.thailandtrains.com/hua-lamphong-station

Skytrain
Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) is a light rail system, also known as Skytrain, which is different from the traditional heavy rail systems in Thailand. It is a mass transit system that runs on elevated tracks, not relying on the existing rail network of conventional trains and does not share routes with the regular railway system in Thailand.

Metro
MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) is a large-scale electric rail system that operates both underground and above ground. It is a high-speed mass transit system that offers convenient travel in areas with heavy traffic. In Bangkok, the MRT runs on both underground and some above-ground routes.

Airport Rail Link
The Airport Rail Link (ARL) is a mass transit system that connects Suvarnabhumi Airport with downtown Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Makkasan Station, which connects to the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), and to Phaya Thai Station, which connects to the BTS (Skytrain). Traveling by Airport Rail Link makes the journey from the airport to the city center more convenient and faster.
